Thirty-seven million people producing almost no noise — a density that reads as calm rather than chaos.
Tokyo does not photograph like other megacities. There is no single skyline; there are a dozen, each belonging to a different ward, and the horizon keeps going long after your lens runs out. Shoot it from height and late — the city only resolves into structure once the daylight stops competing with the signage.
The counter-move is to go the other way entirely: a single alley in Golden Gai at f/1.4, or the moment at Shibuya when the lights change and two thousand people cross without touching. Both are Tokyo. Neither is the postcard.

Macaca fuscata
Three hours north, macaques bathe in volcanic springs at minus fifteen.
