Ankles that rotate, so it can come down a tree head-first.
The rear ankle joints rotate backwards and the tail is nearly as long as the body, which together allow a descent head-first down a trunk, hanging by the hind feet, and movement along the underside of a branch. Very few carnivores of this weight operate in the canopy at all.
Its upper canines are proportionally the longest of any cat alive, a proportion otherwise associated with the extinct sabre-toothed lineages. Almost nothing is known about wild behaviour: the animal is nocturnal, arboreal and thinly distributed, and most of the population estimate is inferred from camera traps and from the volume of skins appearing in border markets.
