Maned Wolf

Roughly half the diet is plant material, and one plant matters disproportionately: lobeira, the wolf apple, which the animal swallows whole and deposits kilometres away, often on the earth of leaf-cutter ant nests where germination rates are markedly higher. Remove the maned wolf from a patch of cerrado and the fruit stays under the parent tree.

The legs are the tell of a grassland specialist — they raise the head above the sward rather than deliver speed, and the animal hunts by listening for rodents and stamping them out of cover. The cerrado has been converted to soy and cattle faster than almost any tropical savanna on earth, which turns a widespread species into a fragmented one, killed largely on roads.
