The only large predator that has never learned to fear people.
Because the high Arctic was never settled at density, Arctic wolves have no cultural memory of humans as a threat. They will approach out of curiosity — a behaviour that is unnerving, scientifically valuable, and entirely a product of absence.
Territories here can exceed 2,500 square kilometres. Prey is sparse, travel is constant, and the animals may go days between meals.
