Monochrome by default. Composition carries everything the palette will not.

There is no midtone forgiveness in the Arctic. Snow, ice, low sun and dark water produce histograms that punish autoexposure. Shoot manual, expose for the highlight, and accept that the camera will fight you.

The subject is often absence — scale, weather, an animal small in a very large frame. Resist the urge to fill it. The empty ice is the story.
