The quiet success story: large carnivores recolonising a crowded landscape.

Europe's large-carnivore populations have expanded significantly in recent decades, mostly without reintroduction — animals simply moved back into land that stopped being farmed. It is the most underreported conservation story on the continent.

The photographic culture here is hide-based and patient: multi-night stays in a forest hide in Finland, or a boat off Norway in December for orca and humpback under aurora.
